Rest, and Then Begin Again

I have received so many emails, texts, and other messages about my foot. Thank you, thank you, thank you. (Update: it's better every day and I'm back to my workouts. Cue the endorphins and endocannabinoids! Woo hoo!)

Building an empire is the long-term play, and I can attest I've been off track many, many times over the past two and a half decades while building mine.

Most recently, success in one area of pursuit has caused a stall in another area. It happens.

Chances are you've experienced the feeling of getting off track with a wildly important goal (WIG).

First, I want you to know that you're not alone. And, as I said yesterday, there's nothing wrong with you.

Getting off track is part of being human--it happens to all of us, whether it's internal / personal, or external (due to circumstances beyond our control).

Good news flash: beginning again isn't just possible, it can make you stronger. Here are three ideas to help you find your way back:

  1. Exercise self-compassion, not self-judgment
  2. Take one small, deliberate action (start with that 5 minutes I suggested ... set your timer)
  3. Remember your "why"

Beginning again isn't a sign of failure, it's keeping your commitment to yourself. Sometimes you've got to dig deep and say, "This matters enough to me that I'm willing to start over."

I'd love to hear which of these ideas resonates most with you, or what strategies you've found helpful when getting back on track. Let me know what you think.

Now have a great Friday, an awesome weekend, and I'll see you tomorrow.

Here's to beginning again, as many times as it takes,

P.S. One of my WIGs was to sell 100,000 copies of Business Networking: Become a Rainmaker by Building Fantastic Relationships That Stand the Test of Time. I've gotten woefully off-track because because because (I know you know!). If you've read it and haven't left a review, would you (pretty please) do that here.

And if you loved the book, would you consider buying a copy (or 10) here for folks in your network who would benefit from reading it? I'd appreciate it so much!

The ultimate difference between authors who realize hockey stick revenue growth and those who don't isn't always quality. There are lots of books that make my eyes bleed and are unreadable plus there are thousands of great books no one is buying or reading because, ahem, no marketing plan. What it comes down to is (drumroll please):...

Today it's all about the plan, baby! #AustinPowersVoice And while my Book Marketing Action Plans are extensive, once I've identified alllllllll of the things I could do with a book, I narrow down my activities to the few I can sustain. If you're serious about selling books (or using your book to sell products or services), you'll want to create a detailed Book MAP with these essential components: Book Marketing...

You also need a quality book, a plan, and the commitment to market it consistently (based on the job of the book, your personality, your available time, and budget--see more in You Must Market Your Book).
