Your Book Marketing Mindset Is Dooming You to Failure

Reading time: 35 seconds

"Book marketing success is like a marriage: you've got to have a positive attitude going in, or you're doomed from the start."

You also need a quality book, a plan, and the commitment to market it consistently (based on the job of the book, your personality, your available time, and budget--see more in You Must Market Your Book).

Book marketing money mindset "faux" beliefs:

  • Believing you can't make significant money from book sales. You can.
  • Expecting your book to sell itself without marketing. It won't.
  • Assuming someone else will handle marketing for you. Nope, this one's on you!*
  • Blaming external factors for poor sales. Big mistake. Huge.
  • Refusing to invest in professional services. A best-earning book is a team effort!

You know this: your book is a business asset that requires investment. Professionals who are authors--and professional authors--understand this and allocate resources accordingly.

And they expect their smart and hard work to yield great returns--and they do!

I've helped authors earn six figures from books that initially sold poorly. The difference wasn't just quality improvements—it was a complete mindset shift about what's possible.

What's one action you'll take this week to improve your book's professional quality? Make that commitment now.

It might be that you need a solid plan! You'll find the resources you need to craft your Book Marketing Action Plan (MAP) in You Must Market Your Book (the audiobook is still just 99 cents right now)!

Sending blessings of abundance and success!

See you tomorrow...

*If someone claims to be a "book marketing expert," please ask them three questions: 1. How many books have you published (with your name on them), 2. How many books have you sold? and 3. How much collective revenue have you generated from your book(s)?

If you're underwhelmed by their answers, imagine that's probably how you'll feel if you hire them.

Truth: book marketing is an author's job. Use of social media can be delegated sort of. Have a question about this? Let me know, I'm all ears!

... (and how you can beat the odds) Reading time: 22.2 seconds Did you know most aspiring authors never finish their book? In my respected guide, Write Your First Nonfiction Book, I share the 5 predictable stages every first-time author goes through: Excitement - "I'm ready!" Self-Doubt - "Am I being foolish? Can I really do this?" Disbelief + Overwhelm - "This seems too hard." The Aha Moment - "I can do this!" Delight - "I did it!" Understanding these stages is crucial because when...

For the empire builders in the group (hey!), who may or may not have been working on sending emails to their lists, just know you can customize your emails to fit *you.* For example... The ultimate difference between authors who realize hockey stick revenue growth and those who don't isn't always quality. There are lots of books that make my eyes bleed and are unreadable plus there are thousands of great books no one is buying or reading because, ahem, no marketing plan. What it comes down to is (drumroll please):...
