12/9/24 Focus on Cost or ROI?

Reading time: 1 monetizeable minute

Hi Reader!

Question from a prospective client:

Can you price out the exact costs for producing my book?

Oh, sure, that's not a problem. In Write Your First Nonfiction Book, I share an expected budget *and* what to plan to spend for each piece of the production process. I also talk about it a bit in You Must Write a Book.

HOWEVER.

Before I write a book, and in the process of helping my bespoke book clients do the same, I pencil out a path to monetization success (from book sales to the different income streams), with a goal of a 10x10 (10x return on investment per year, for ten years).

Which provides a line of sight the expected ROI.

I'd seriously much rather focus on my expected ROI than how much I'm going to spend.

As an aside, you can either focus on where you're going (ROI) *or* all of the money you're spending.

Now don't get upset and think I don't think about the money or expenses. I most certainly do. But once I know what I must spend on something so it is awesome, I align my focus with my ROI.

How I define awesome: the book will do the jobs I want it to do once it's published.

I'm going to assume your book is awesome (clear objectives, clean writing, excellent design, focused marketing plan, and consistent author activity), which means you'll want to get a copy of You Must Monetize Your Book so you can pencil out your path(s) to book monetization success.

P.S. The course that this book is based on--which goes much further and deeper--is Building a Million Dollar Book Business. I include processes, procedures, legal agreements, templates, and no B.S. guidance. I also host monthly live Q&As and answer all of your questions. Oh, and you can save 30% as a subscriber with the code subscriber (which amounts to less than $1.92/day for a year to earn potentially hundreds of thousands on the way to your million $ book business).

Is 2025 the year you really squeeze every cent out of your book? I sure do hope so, because it is lots of fun!
