Speaking of "Stages..."

Reading Time: Postcard (<30 seconds)

I used to have a stack of business cards, tons of connections, and zero referrals.

Why?

Because I didn't intentionally cross The Trust Bridge—you might know this one--it's the journey from "Nice to meet you" to "I trust you enough to refer my best clients and connections." This meant fewer business cards on my desk, more contacts at my fingertips with genuine connections.

If you want your inbox to be a hotbed of introductions and "I'm ready to hire you now!'s" you need to stop asking for referrals or introductions during your first meeting. 🤦

Instead, ask "How can I support you?" or "What do you need next-most?" or "How did you get so great at what you do?" Then, give first. Remember: Givers Gain.

The rest will follow in an easy, natural way.

Don't know about the 5 stages of crossing The Trust Bridge? Oy vey! It's okay, you can learn them in Business Networking -- which is right here: https://amzn.to/4nRtFdz

Reading Time: Postcard (<30 seconds) Not too long ago I witnessed someone have what can only be described as the adult version of a temper tantrum. And while their irritation may have been justifiable (who's to say?), said tantrum was overheard by someone whose business they were trying to win. It's probably no surprise that the person doing the overhearing immediately said, "Hard pass." Cost of lost business? Oh, I don't know, hundreds of thousands of $$$$ (at least). Oops. Malcolm Gladwell...

Reading Time: Postcard (<30 seconds) We've had a blast in Vegas--eating too much, laughing, and hanging out with friends this past week. Oh, and there is some exciting stuff happening in our businesses--more on that when the timing is right. While we were in town, I was meeting with a member of my accounting team, and I couldn't--for the life of me--remember the guy she took over for years ago.* And that reminded me of a coaching client I had once who lost out on a huge deal ($225,000 in...
