You're Always "On Stage" (Whether You Realize It Or Not)

Not too long ago I witnessed someone have what can only be described as the adult version of a temper tantrum. And while their irritation may have been justifiable (who's to say?), said tantrum was overheard by someone whose business they were trying to win.

It's probably no surprise that the person doing the overhearing immediately said, "Hard pass." Cost of lost business? Oh, I don't know, hundreds of thousands of $$$$ (at least). Oops.

Malcolm Gladwell calls it the "thin slice"—people judge you in seconds based on what they see (and dare I say, hear).

Your attire. Your follow-up speed. Your professionalism. It all tells a story before you say a word.

You also might not realize that you're always being watched by people, and they are watching and waiting for the right time--when they're ready--to hire you, refer you, etc.

Quick Tip: Put your best foot forward. (I know, I like sweats and scrunchies more, too, however...) Wear your "big money energy" outfits, get to where you're feeling some kind of way, and then go out in the world and make those connections.

And by all means, even if you're upset about something, don't lose your mind! You never know who is listening...
