Willpower Isn't Enough, White-Knuckling Is ...

...just not enough to win!

Reading Time: Postcard (30 seconds)

I'm sure you can relate--This time it will be different. I'm going to do X until I get my end results.

Then you white-knuckle it until your willpower gives out. I read a great book about this, The Willpower Instinct by Kelly McGonigal, M.D. (You can get it here.)

I've come to believe willpower is an ineffective (terrible) strategy.

You'll almost certainly fail at achieving your vision if you rely on willpower because honestly, at some point it just runs out.

I always start strong on Monday: this week no cookies. By Wednesday, I'm negotiating with myself: if I do all of my workouts, I can have half a cookie. By Friday? The cookies win.

Without accountability, you'll let yourself slide. Without a system, plan, and clear goals, you'll find yourself in a cycle where you set your intention, take some action, make some progress, and then, well, you know what happens, right?

Accountability is essential. Here's what you can do: Get a coach. Find a partner. Join a group. Put something on the line.

Want to know about the time I had a coaching client who lost 30 lbs before her high school reunion? Hint: it's because I was just one piece of her accountability strategy. Hit reply if you want to hear about it tomorrow.

Remember: when no-one is watching, you'll tend to let yourself off the hook.

Stop trying to white-knuckle your way to success. Get the support you actually need and get your goals!

Reading Time: Postcard (less than 30 seconds) Steve asked a great question, "Do I need to make every single change to see results [with Feng Shui]?" The answer is, unequivocally, no. You don't need to hire a Feng Shui consultant. You don't need to "Marie Kondo" your entire house. You just need to look at your environment with fresh eyes and ask: "How does my space feel and is it helping me become who I want to be?" If the answer is yes, leave it be! And if the answer is no? Change it, one...

Reading Time: Postcard (less than 30 seconds) Did you know: Your environment is making decisions for you whether you realize it or not. There are dozens of micro-decisions you will make today based on the previous major and micro decisions you've made. If you're like me, when there are cookies in the house, you'll eat them. (Sure I can put them in the freezer "for the future" but the future is in about 20 minutes...) If my workout clothes aren't laid out the night before and ready to go, I...

Reading Time: Postcard (25 seconds) Yesterday I shared that Ms. Cat Food and I were Feng Shui practitioners--and boy did y'all love this idea. I promised to share some fun and effective actions you can take. Before I share them, let me say that everything is energy and if you have a problem, there's a good chance you've got some congestion. What you need is circulation, and Feng Shui is a circulation catalyst. Here's what she did, what I did, and what you can do: 1. Declutter everything. Get...
