7.7.26 Weekly Book Business Brief

Welcome to the Weekly Book Business Brief—your weekly shot of strategy, tools, and real talk for authors building a book-based business.

Well, that was a weekend. 🇺🇸

I hope your 250th was full of the good stuff—fireworks, family, one perfectly grilled thing, and (if you're me) at least three servings of watermelon. Mr. Corder and I did a little round with the neighbors. It was super fun!

And then I woke up Sunday morning thinking about what an audacious vision this whole country was.

📚 A VISION, TURNED INTO REALITY (250 YEARS AGO)

I'm not sure I would've had the courage to light a candle, and with a quill pen in hand write down what I wanted, tell my country of origin sayonara, and sail off to a foreign land. Maybe I would've, but probably not.

Two hundred and fifty years later, we're grilling burgers and setting off fireworks to celebrate what they envisioned. I did think the DC fireworks show was pretty cool, and did anyone else notice that most of the music was from the '80s? #justsayin'

Regardless of whether any of us would've done the same thing if we had the opportunity to be a Founding Father, it's proof of concept: this is what can happen when we take our visions seriously.

Which brings me to a birthday I'm very fond of… 🎂

🎂 BOOK BIRTHDAY: VISION TO REALITY (2ND EDITION)

The Second Edition of Vision to Reality has a July birthday this month (yes, another book birthday, what can I say)?

This book matters to me, still, a very long time after it was first published, and here's why: most people have something they'd love to create. Somewhere, sometimes way deep down inside, they have a vision, goals, intentions.

But what they don't have is a battle-tested way to turn that vision into their real-life reality. They're getting distracted, procrastinating, or thinking they are doing what needs to be done (when, let's face it, the data is telling a different story). Yes, I think I'm talking to you, Reader!

Vision to Reality is that battle-tested way. I wrote it originally as the accompaniment to my (also battle-tested) STMA system—Short-Term Massive Action, which is a 100-day framework you can wrap around your vision (so you can actually live it). It closes the gaps between what you want (more business) and what you have now (frustration), without the "distractions," "someday" and "negative self-talk" that keep most visions from ever seeing the light of day. This is such a bummer!

Inside, you'll have the step-by-step process to:

→ Create a vision and goals that are actually compelling and you're excited about!

→ Define stretch goals that feel like "good" pressure.

→ Ink the habits you need to have, and commit to the identity of a high achiever, on purpose, because you'll never achieve more than you are in your mind.

→ Surround yourself with an A-team (because nobody does big things alone).

→ Craft and hold to a daily structure that fits your real life, so you can get more done in 100 days than you did all last year.

If you've been sitting on "Someday I'll" for way too long—whether that's the dream of publishing your book, grow your business to the next level, up-end your life entirely, become the "after" picture of your health goal, or be in a relationship someone else labels #relationshipgoalz—100 days is enough to get you well on your way.

✏️ YOUR FUN (Home)WORK

Grab your Bullet Journal, a piece of paper, a fresh Word doc, or even the Notes app on your phone (I've been doing a ton of Notes app work lately) and answer this:

If I pressed the reset button and made the most of the next 100 days, on purpose, what would I want to have accomplished by October 15th?

Three goals: 2 business, 1 personal. Write the answer down and put it somewhere you'll see it every day this week (Bob Proctor says on a 3x5 card you keep in your pocket!). Those are the bones of your vision. Grab the book, give it a read, and go for it.

Next week we'll talk about how to make it real (with a little something extra for Brief readers 🎁).

If you'd love a room to work through this in real time with others, I'm putting together A Day in the Barn, to be hosted at my place in the fall. (I talked about this a couple of months ago as a retreat at my kitchen table, but our new build will be done and I'm itching to host a fun gathering in the form of strategy session.) If this sounds interesting, press reply and let me know. I'm putting together the details for a small group to come and hang out, strategize, and eat (#brisket).

Have a wonderful week thinking bigger than usual, and I'll see you next Tuesday!

To your success!

P.S. Forward this email to a friend who's been talking about the same "someday" for years. And send them to grab my free Roadmap so they get these missives every Tuesday too!

P.P.S. Next week we're going deeper on the STMA 100-Day Program (with a Brief-reader-only sale 🎁).
