8.25.26 Weekly Book Business Brief

Reading time: ~2 last-days-of-summer minutes ☀️

Welcome back to the Weekly Book Business Brief—your weekly shot of strategy, tools, and real talk for authors building a book-based business.

Last week I told you the water was two inches above my nostrils, and a whole lot of you wrote back to tell me to go take a nap. 💜 I did.

I've been thinking about why I'm feeling over my skis. It's because I've said yes to too many things, and life has had other plans for my free time lately. It's fine, everything's fine. 👀

So while this week won't seem to be particularly "book empire growth related," make no mistake, it totally is. Without further ado: my battle-tested way to accelerate results and skip most of the mistakes, stress, and expensive detours.

📚 SOMEBODY ALREADY MADE YOUR MISTAKES FOR YOU

Every mistake you could make has already been made. We're talking face-planted, ugly cry, overly expensive mistakes. Because easy to fix mistakes are way too much fun, right? Right.

When you're moving fast, Reader, the best way to avoid mistakes is to find someone who is further down the path who can help you avoid speed bumps, peek around corners, and ensure you keep your mind right. Short advice: find a person standing where you want to stand, pay them so they'll tell you what they actually did, and then go do it with your eyes wide open, mindset locked in, determination on full-tilt.

It's not cheating, it's smart business. But it requires you to believe in yourself, bet on yourself, and while you know you could fail, you're absolutely not going to.

BEFORE YOU FIND YOUR MENTOR

1. Name your desired outcome. Something like, "build an empire that I own, that doesn't own me."

2. Find someone who already has it. Do your due diligence: kick the tires, look under the hood, talk to them. Find out if they are going to give you BS advice (I said what I said) or if they will say, "do this, don't do this, then do this," because they know.

3. Pay to be in their room.

4. Do the boring things they tell you. The advice you're gonna get is almost always unglamorous, repeatable, and effective. Do it anyway.

If you're looking for a mentor and a room of like-minded people to do life and business with, check this out.

Reach your goals every time by doing this

Write your one result on a 3x5 card—Bob Proctor style—and put it where you'll see it before your first cup of coffee. I have colored sticky notes with my goals alllll over my house. (Mr. Corder absolutely (cough cough) loves this.)

If you want a second set of eyes (that belong to me) on your plan, bring it to the monthly Live Q&A—one good question can save you months. And the whole map, start to finish, lives inside Publishing Ph.D. Code subscriber saves you 30%.

📚 BOOK SPOTLIGHT: VISION TO REALITY

One hundred days from today is December 3. You could do more in those 100 days than you've done all year so far. I'm not giving you a pep talk (unless you need one). It's the math that works out when your plan meets your activity. Vision to Reality (2nd Edition) is where I put my whole 100-day short-term massive action process. It is simple but not easy. And of course, you're up to the challenge! If you're ready, let's go!

Reading time: ~.25 minutes 🌅 Welcome back to the Weekly Book Business Brief—your weekly shot of strategy, tools, and real talk for authors building a book-based business. This week's brief is extra brief because I've got some things I'm working on and I'll be honest and totally vulnerable here: I'm over my limit. The water level is two inches above my nostrils and I'm gasping for air. No need to send in a team, I've got this. But what I can't do today is write any more than this: When you...

Reading time: ~2 dog-days-of-summer minutes ☀️ Welcome back to the Weekly Book Business Brief—your weekly shot of strategy, tools, and real talk for authors building a book-based business. Happy August, Reader! We're still "in the thick air soup" (it is SO HOT!), Mr. Corder is still declining to grill (send snacks 🤣), and our sweet Shadow has transitioned to immunotherapy and a new pain med. We're bracing ourselves for the inevitable. ❤️🩹 Let's focus on the position: Did you analyze your...

Reading time: 2+ hot & sweaty summer minutes 🍉 Welcome back to the Weekly Book Business Brief—your weekly shot of strategy, tools, and real talk for authors building a book-based business. We've officially hit the stretch of summer where the Tennessee air feels like soup, and Mr. Corder insists it's too hot to grill (but a gal's gotta eat--what do I do?! 🤣). Seriously, I hope you're staying cool and enjoying some family and/or vacation time. My motivation level has been a little lower these...
