You said, "Yes" again, didn't you?

I was having a conversation with a friend last week. She said she was so exhausted and when I asked why, she said, "Well, my schedule is so full." Almost as an off-handed comment, she added, "And it's not doing sh*t I want to do, either."

It came down to her saying "Yes." when she wanted to say, "NO!"

That brings me to this bright and early Monday morning thought. Is this you:

You got an invite, but you didn't want to go. You said yes anyway, because what would they think if you didn't? So now you've had to rearrange your entire day (week or weekend) around something that fills you with dread.

I have a t-shirt that says, "I'm sorry I'm late, I didn't want to come." If you've met me, you wouldn't think I'm an introvert, but I definitely am--I'm someone who recharges alone, at home, with my furries. (And my husband, he's pretty great, too.)

I know from experience that you have probably done the above, maybe even yesterday. If you think you might be people-pleasing a little too much (even a little bit), I'm here to help. If you're twisting yourself into a pretzel to please people who, if we're being honest, probably aren't losing sleep over your happiness, you're going to love a book I published back in 2018 that is a fan-favorite.

I don't talk about it very much, because it isn't about empire building or book writing ... or is it? The conversation with my friend ended with me sending her a copy, and it occurred to me that you might like it, too!

If you don't have maximum confidence, the chances of you publishing your book are slim. (Imposter syndrome, anyone?) You won't follow-up with prospective clients, or take a big risk or swing for the fences because you aren't oozing the necessary 'rizz (that's charisma for those who don't know.) 😎 You're going to keep procrastinating, not making progress, and kicking the can down the road.

When it now the best time to stop getting in your own way and get going toward your goals and achieving your dreams? Well, my friend Reader, it's actually today.

If you haven't read it yet, here's a tip from Stop Trying So F*cking Hard:

Wear your #ZeroFucks T-shirt. Not literally (although you can, they sell them on Amazon these days). It means in practical application: know who you are, know what you like and don't like, and make no apologies for it. The next time you get an invite that makes your stomach clench, say no. Just "No." It's a complete sentence. (You're polite, like I am, so throw in a "Thank you." for good measure.) It's gonna feel great!

You can get your copy of Stop Trying So F*cking Hard and start saying no and designing a life that actually makes you deliriously happy:

One more thing: You are enough. Right now. Just as you are.

See you tomorrow.

Reading time: 27 secondsReader, Yesterday I told you about Elizabeth. She finished her book in three months and and she’ll tell you the Live Q&As made the difference. Courses give you structure, and you can get some of your questions answered with some great AI. But what AI can’t answer are the specific questions about your specific book, empire, or situation. Strategic decisions require strategic answers, and that’s what the Live Q&As are for. When I designed my publishing, marketing, and...

This past week, my client Elizabeth shared her story with me, and I want to share it with you, Reader. Seven years ago, she wrote a book (then she didn't do anything with it). Have you ever put time and effort into creating something, and then lost your momentum or motivation? (I know I have.) The manuscript sat on her computer, and even though she hired an editor, they weren't especially helpful. She wasn’t sure what to do next, so the manuscript just…waited. Waiting to be published, impact...

Today's Olympics Movie Recommendation: Chariots of Fire (I'm not crying, you're crying!) Reading time: 30 Olympics-winning seconds The 2026 Winter Olympics are coming to a close this weekend, and I'm a little sad I have to wait two more years for the summer Games. 😢 I've been inspired by watching the athletes pour their hearts into every performance. We’ve witnessed the joy of victory, grace of perseverance, and heart-breakingness of defeat. There's one last AHA moment I've had this week: the...
