Snowpocalypse + Icemageddon = 🥶

Reading Time: 53 seconds

This weekend didn't go anything like I'd envisioned it. I'd had visions of a weekend by the fire, with lots of reading and maybe a couple of naps, plus some exciting football games.

Well.

Other plans were in store, and suffice it to say it didn't go at all as I'd envisioned. ICYMI, a good bit of the U.S. has gotten quite a storm. It started with freezing temps, progressed into lots of snow which became freezing rain ... and ice. Lots and lots of ice. Our trees just aren't used to that much weight.

It got worse. Bad news: yesterday morning, we lost power. Good news: we have a generator!

But wait, there's more! We've had an extra adventure when my mother-in-law and her husband had a tree fall right into their house. Right after they lost power. And no, they do not have a generator. So...

Enter: Operation Rescue! It took some doing, but we relocated them and their five cats down to our place. With my brother here for the storm as well, it's a tight squeeze--six cats, five people, two dogs, and a turtle.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because plans. I had "big plans" for this week--about twenty meetings, a client's book launch (more on that later) party, and "all the things."

Plot twist! Here's the thing: I won't be attending all of those meetings, going to the gym or working out at home, nor a host of other things I had on my to do list. I'll be cooking for five, taking the dogs out as needed, and enjoying all of the togetherness.

Read: I'll take it in stride, do what I can do, and wait until I can get back to it. It's a detour, not the end of the road.

With any luck, this will be the worst of it and before we know it, the sun will come out, the ice will melt, and everyone will return to their homes with a smile on their face. It'll be business as usual with a fun story to tell.

Until then, I'll be taking it hour-by-hour and hoping you reply to this inbox with a funny meme, link to a hilarious video, or some encouraging words.

With any luck, I'll be back in your inbox tomorrow!

Reading Time: 17 seconds Happy Friday! I don't know about you, Reader, but I can practically taste the weekend—even if I'll be spending it in the same spot I've occupied for a week. The ice is still hanging on with impressive determination, but you know what? So am I!! I decided that no matter what happens, my response is gonna be: "That's awesome!" Mrs. Claus made a meatloaf, but the oven doesn't work? That's awesome! (Byron threw it on the grill--it was delish!) The insurance won't get the...

Reading Time: 23 still very chilly seconds You might think by Day 6 of being iced in, I'd be climbing the walls or reorganizing my spice cabinet for the fourth time. Or drinking that peach moonshine one of our neighbors gifted us a few months ago. But no (at least not yet, 😉)—I'm still locked in on my intended outcomes. Some of you know I used to say I had a t-shirt that said, "I'm sorry I'm late, I didn't want to come." Then my brother got me one for Christmas. I may or may not be wearing it...

Reading Time: 13 very chilly seconds The good news: we have power. The bad news: stepping outside still feels like auditioning for a role in Frozen. (Let it go, let it gooooooo.) Today, my mission is simple—stay focused. While the world outside looks like a snow globe someone has been shaking a little too enthusiastically, I've got a hot cup of coffee and a to-do list that frankly does not care (even a little bit) about the weather conditions. If you're also iced in, I see you! And, I hope...
