One of my dearest friends is constantly reminding me to celebrate--big wins, little wins, all the wins.

It's tempting to just nod, smile, and go "Okay, that's great. Next!"

But I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth, if you know what I mean. To myself, I nod and move on. To others, I say, "But you have to celebrate!"

It's really great (not being sarcastic, really) to have people in your life who point out these, ahem, discrepancies.

I'm here to remind you to celebrate. Today specifically, I want you to celebrate the day you become an author. If you're already an author, what was the date you became an author?

I'm not talking, "Have an extra piece of chocolate" celebrate. I'm talking, "Throw a party, have cake, make a toast, take photos, wear your best suit or prettiest dress" celebrate.

Last week my 21st author-versary just passed me right on by. My husband and my friends said, "Whoa, that's not cool. We're going out to celebrate!"

It was fun. I ate too much carrot cake. Laughed and talked about my journey. And I promise this isn't about me--it's about you.

Pull out your calendar and add a recurring date on it--and be sure to add in a reminder that comes a few days before.

Becoming an author is a big freaking deal, so give it the pomp and circumstances you deserve.
