I started my mastermind with six people

Reading time: < 30 seconds

As I mentioned, the Empire Builders Mastermind (EBM) was born in 2019 with just six people.

I didn't have a massive strategy--my "big marketing push" (and I do detest when someone says, "I'm going to 'push' this..." 🤮) was a Facebook post.

One other thing I did was to make a list of people I thought would be a great fit for my group. Then I called and invited them with a brief description. I didn't have a numbers goal, I had a "perfect fit" goal. I wanted people who also wanted to build an empire around their book (even if they didn't have one yet).

I ended up with six members, and most of them were course students. I didn't have to recruit anyone, I attracted them instead. Over these past eight years, I've had so much fun mentoring, coaching, cajoling, and pushing the members to build and grow what they want, not what the drumbeat of others is telling them to do. (Not everybody needs or wants to scale. Just sayin'.)

I must say attracting vs. recruiting is just an easier way to live and work. Perhaps something I should write more about sometime? You tell me!

Anyway.

Having a mastermind is a fantastic way to simultaneously create impact and income. You can quickly learn how to structure, launch, and fill yours in here.

Tomorrow I'll talk about why proximity is power.

I'll see you then.

Reading time: < 30 seconds About eight months after I launched Building a Million Dollar Book Business I attended a really cool conference. RIP, Tribe Conference. A sub-topic of the conference was masterminds, and one of my long-time readers looked at me and said, "If you had a mastermind, I'd be in it!" In my shock, I said, "Why?" Her reply, "You have an empire and I want one. You own it, it doesn't own you, and so if you start a mastermind, I'd be the first to sign up." Long story short,...

Reading time: < 30 seconds Mr. $300K Course Launch helped me put together, pre-launch successfully, and fully launch Building a Million Dollar Book Business. It has been, since the first day, one of my most popular courses. In case you're wondering if all courses are still popular after 8 years, the answer sadly is no. Here's why I believe my course is continuing to help people: the content is evergreen. Whether you published a nonfiction book in 1997 or are aiming for 2027, the chances are...

Reading time: < 30 seconds I used to teach Publishing PhD three times a year live. I'd meet people who wanted to write a book, and enroll them in my next eight-session course. I had a blast! Then someone approached me and said, you could save time, make more money, and serve more people with a "blended-learning" model. I didn't know what that was and if you don't either, it's basically an on-demand course that combines the different ways people learn the best: videos, audios, downloadable...
