Is Today the Day You Quit

Reading Time: 55 seconds

Happy Friday--and what many call "Quitter's Day" (i.e., the second Friday of a new year).

It's the day most people throw in the towel on their new year's resolutions, goals, intentions ... whatever you call them.

Yes, I know it's technically the third Friday of the year, and also resolutions, goals, and intentions are different. (Not the point. Just sayin'.)

Here's what I'm getting to: this is the day most people lose their resolve, question their ability to achieve what they previously "decided" they want to do, and just, well, quit.

But you, are you going to do that? No, you're not. Because this year is going to be different and here's why.

First, you're one of my readers which makes us friends of sorts, and I've got your back, and ...

Second, any friend would share their "inside baseball," e.g., the really good stuff.

So let me give you a taste of my first 15 days of this year: Got off to a great start (went to bed early on 12/31), wrote out all of my resolutions, goals, and intentions (covering all of the bases), and when I got back to work on 1/5, I crushed it. For two whole days. Day three, my tires felt flat and it seemed like I was coming down with something.

"Oh no!" (Yes, I thought the same thing.)

Option A: Take feeling puny is a sign I should abandon (at least) my workout goals and resume holiday level food consumption and activity levels.

Option B: Do my "get well fast" protocol (a.k.a., my "don't get super sick" protocol) and resume work and workouts ASAP.

Obviously I chose Option B--and it took me until the following Monday (yes, this week) to get back into it.

You won't remember tons of advice if I go chapter and verse here, so here's what I really want you to remember:

If you miss one day, don't miss two. If you miss two, don't miss three. If you miss three, come back on day four. (You can substitute day with week or month.)

While it's still fresh in your mind, write down why you set said goals, resolutions, and intentions, and read it every day, and do the best you can. Press the reset button when you need to, and do what you intended to more days than you don't. Your future self is gonna be mighty proud of you.

One of the reasons I felt so great about my 2025 is that I left it all there--there isn't one more thing I could've done. Yes, even though I missed one of my BHAG's by a freaking mile. I went for it, though, and I'm proud of my past self for all of the effort.

Hope this is the pep talk you didn't know you needed. If you want to wrap arms around your goals, I've got a book you'll love.

Reading Time: 45 seconds I hope yesterday's email hit home for you—and that you're still going strong on those 2026 goals. I wanted to share more about one aspect of yesterday's topic: my mention of the "don't miss two days in a row" part of my overall philosophy isn't something I just made up. It's one of the core principles my co-author Ali Hemyari and I explore in The Success Code. Ali went from broke to building multiple seven-figure businesses by being persistent. By pressing the reset...

Reading Time: 25 seconds So in this very busy second work week of the year, we've talked about celebrating your author anniversary, your book birthdays, and your progress. Because, it’s easy to get busy and skip celebrating … or skip celebrating because we’re conditioned to keep looking down the road at the next goal. Here's what I suggest you do with all that celebrating: you share it! I’m not talking about taking the "look at me" position because you’re so totally cool (because you are!)...

Reading Time: 8 seconds So, did you add those book birthdays to your calendar? (Good.) Now let's talk about something else worth celebrating: the fact that you set a goal and you're making progress. Maybe your progress isn't as fast as you'd like it to be (it might like you're hardly making any progress at all). That's okay. Progress is progress, and you're further along than you were yesterday, last week, or last month. (At least you're here, reading these emails, looking for hope and...
