9/3/24 Pressing Reset: When and Why to Revamp Your Book

Hi, Reader!

From yesterday's message ... I wish I was a full-on extrovert. (Everybody needs a proofreader. Everyone. And at least one.)

I received a fantastic question yesterday from a reader: Why re-do the entire book, why not just re-title it and go on to the next project?

I haven't always been keen on re-doing books. My belief for a really long time was: Once a book is published, it's done.

However, I did a 10th anniversary edition of Tall Order! in 2014 and that was a great experience. More recently, I published the Second Edition of Vision to Reality (also for the 10th anniversary) in July of this year.

With dozens of books, it wouldn't make sense for me to re-do all of them. Or even most of them. But sometimes it does make sense to press the reset button and do a Second Edition or take the best of the first edition, give it a new title, look, and overhaul the contents.

If you're considering an update or new edition of a book, here are a few things to consider:

+ the book is still selling (or it could sell if critical adjustments were made). Be sure to analyze the market--make sure it's not only a large market but also consists of the demographics of folks who read.
+ there are some inaccuracies or the content is outdated (read: it makes sense to strive for the content to be evergreen, so it doesn't need to be updated for quite awhile, if ever)
+ you're older wiser and want to revise or even expand the content

All of these reasons existed with Business Dating, p-l-u-s I was emotional about the "failure" of the book. I knew I made a couple of mistakes with this book. Now that I know better, I wanted to do better.

Also, the main reason is because I want people to be effective and masterful networkers--the those who read the original book were passionate about the fact that it changed how they developed business relationships for the better. They loved the book. I wrote the book to help lots and lots of people. Ineffectively titled, it just didn't do that. It was dead before it ever had a chance.

What happens next?

The book releases in three weeks, and when it does, I believe it will sell! Why? Several reasons:

*Everyone wants more business right now. In an excellent economy, you must be an effective networker. 'Nuff said.

*People are stressed and anxious to develop new business, sooner than later. Everyone I meet is hustling and having a process to follow, which this book provides, help control what can be controlled--intentional and strategic activity (which means better, faster results and less anxiety).

*It's already (pre-)selling. I've pre-sold more copies of Business Networking in the past 48 hours than I have of Business Dating in this entire year. (Plus, it's #1 in 6 Amazon categories!)

Which tells me that either I have a ton of friends or there are a lot of people who want to be more effective business networkers.

Or both. 😎

(If this is you, thank you.)

If you haven't already, pre-order your copy of Business Networking: Become a Rainmaker by Building Fantastic Relationships That Stand the Test of Time.

I'm going to shift gears and tackle a different aspect of empire building, starting tomorrow. See you then!

Reading time: < 60 seconds Happy Tuesday! In case you missed me yesterday, there's no need for concern. While I don't usually keep secrets from you, I've been sitting on two cool project for a while, and they're starting to take on some serious momentum. You may have read when I talked about Project 100 (and asked 100 of you to join in the fun). What started as an ambitious goal has quietly grown into something even bigger: another huge project and Project 200. (More details on them are...

Reading time: < 30 seconds If you've been meaning to grab The Bestselling Book Formula and/or the mini-course, now's your moment. I know the book title and all the things say "bestselling," but it's my intent you have a best earning book. Regardless of how you earn money from your book: royalties, multiple income streams via coaching, consulting, certifications, courses, companion guides, speaking, training, or even a mastermind (to mention just a few possibilities), the content of your book...

Reading time: < 30 seconds The Bestselling Book Formula book is short by design. You can read it in under an hour. I did that on purpose because the formula itself is simple, and I didn't want to bury it in extra words just to make the book feel more substantial. (There's a whole chapter about why that's a bad idea.) But some of you want more. (I know, you've told me!) You want to sit with each key and actually apply it to your work-in-progress. You want guidance as you make decisions about...
