Give Your Book Away to Grow Audience Reach

I'm sure some of you will hate this strategy, and that's totally fine. It's important to engage in the tactics that work best for your book, based on solid strategy. If gifting your book isn't a great idea for your book, don't do it. But if it is, you will want to trust me when I say giving it away is a solid and effective idea.

Today's tip: Stop hoarding your book—give it away strategically to multiply your results.

If you're treating your book like a precious artifact that can't be shared, you're missing a fundamental marketing opportunity. Books aren't meant to sit idle; they're meant to work for you by reaching new audiences and generating business opportunities.

Remember:

A book at rest is money at rest. A book in motion is money in motion.

When your book's purpose is to attract clients or customers, giving away digital copies should be as generous as handing out Halloween candy. The potential return on investment from one strategically gifted book can dwarf its production costs—especially when it leads to consulting contracts, speaking engagements, or course enrollments.

Digital platforms like BookFunnel make this easier than ever. You can distribute your book widely without printing costs, reaching readers who might never have discovered your work otherwise.

Your action step: Identify three ways you could give away your book this month. Consider offering it as a lead magnet, conference giveaway, or partnership bonus with other authors in your field.

The goal isn't to devalue your work—it's to maximize its impact and reach. Every book you give to the right person becomes a potential gateway to bigger opportunities.
