...read: make your self-published book indistinguishable from traditional publishing

Yesterday the husband requested burgers for dinner. But we didn't have any ready for the grill.

Would it surprise you I don't look Buckingham Palace ready every day? (It shouldn't.)

So with my hair piled on top of my head, wearing my cat-fur covered sweats, I thought, I won't run into anyone I know anyway, so what does it matter?

Big mistake! Not only did I run into one person, I ran into two. Of course that's how it works, right?

Now, do I need to be Cinderella-ready for the ball every time I leave my house? Well, even if I do, it's never going to happen.

But what if that same thought process was applied to my books?

It doesn't matter if I have a crappy cover, tons of typos, who will notice?

(Only EVERYONE.)

Yup, just the moment you need your book to be awesome (because it's being read by a prospective client), you're going to regret not investing the time, money, and energy into making it something you're proud of.

How do I know? Take a wild guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

So what do you need to have a pro-looking book?

I reveal the "Four Cornerstones of a Professionally Published Book" in several of my books, including You Must Write a Book and Write Your First Nonfiction Book:

  1. An awesome cover that fits your genre but stands out
  2. A next-to-flawless read from professional editing
  3. Quality interior formatting that enhances readability
  4. Compelling book description that converts browsers to buyers

In Write Your First Nonfiction Book, I also share my exact file management system for keeping track of manuscript versions, preventing catastrophic mistakes, and ensuring a smooth production process.

These insights come from my experience publishing 67 books (that have sold almost five million copies worldwide).

You don't have to have my learning curve to ensure your first book looks like your fiftieth (but you can definitely benefit from it!). Don't leave your book's success to chance.

Reading time: 17.5 seconds The final chapter of my tried-and-true guide to "Write Your First Nonfiction Book" contains what I call "The Single Most Important Section in this Book." (Good, right?) My message is simple but powerful: Everything I share is a suggestion, not a rule. You can follow my formula exactly, or you can customize it to fit your unique voice and vision. What matters most is that you start writing and keep writing until your book is complete. As I say in the book's closing...

Reading time: 45 seconds I'm sure you have been wondering, What makes Honorée shake her head about books? Yup, I have a little ESP, and I'll tell you one thing: When people have "writing a book" on their goal or bucket list, and then just pop one out, with no intention or forethought. I know in my heart, that with both of those, the book I'm looking at could have been so much better, more effective, and yes, a client magnet. You know, this, right, that your book isn't "just" a book—it's a...
