11.3.26 Weekly Book Business Brief — Finish What You Start (and What "Until Now" Means)

Reading time: ~2 sweater-weather minutes 🍂

Welcome to the Weekly Book Business Brief—your weekly shot of strategy, tools, and real talk for authors building a book-based business.

Hey Reader! Last week I left you with a cliffhanger ("until now," remember? 👀), so let's talk about it. The courses are saying sayonara on November 30, and the Brief is changing as well.

Writing to you is one of my favorite parts of the week, and I'm not giving it up!

What is changing is where I point you for hands-on help: my books, and, for the authors ready for a bigger room, bespoke books and the Empire Builders Mastermind. I'll share more on that in future editions.

With the doors closing, I've got one thing I'd love you to know before they do…

📚 BUYING AND DOING ARE DIFFERENT SPORTS

Everyone I know has a "digital shelf" slap full (as my MIL would say) of courses bought with the best intentions (#beentheredonethat, and yes, I have one too). The ones who get results finish one thing before they start the next.

I want you to buy the course(s) that you'll take and benefit from. And whether you grab something from new at $49 (or less), or dust off something you already own, you will win when you complete them!

Allow me to offer some assistance...

🎯 MY GET 'ER DONE DIRECTIVE

😬 Name your choke point. Writing, publishing, selling, or building the business? Pick one--the one most dominant right now.

🤓 Choose the course(s) you know you need.

This next one is key:

📆 Schedule three sessions. Yes, on your calendar. Thirty minutes each, inviolate appointments, will beat a "someday" I'll get to it (every day and twice on Sunday).

This one is my golden ticket--when I set aside time on my calendar, I'm able to make great progress. When I don't, I don't!

👏🏻 Take the first action (ASAP). Never leave the site of a goal without taking an action, right? Never leave your payment completion form before putting some time on your calendar to make measurable progress.

🤖 For the AI Users in the Back 😉

Try this prompt: "Here's where I am with my book (idea, draft, published, or selling) and the one result I want in the next 90 days. Here's a list of courses I own or am considering: [paste list]. Tell me which ones I should get and why, then build me a three-session plan." Then wordsmith it until it sounds like you.

📅 BLOCK THREE SESSIONS

(Yes, I'm repeating myself.) Open your calendar right now and put three 30-minute sessions on it before Friday. I think you can have all three scheduled in under five minutes. 💪 When you've shown up for all three, do a hair flip! You'll be miles ahead of where you started. #letsgo

Want a second set of eyes (mine) on your plan? My final Live Q&A is next Tuesday, November 10, and one good question can save you months of struggle!

📚 BOOK SPOTLIGHT: YOU MUST MARKET YOUR BOOK

If marketing your book seems overwhelming, intimidating, or frustrating (or all three), You Must Market Your Book is a resource I wrote just for you. It's my step-by-step guide to getting your book in front of the readers who are looking for it.

👉 Grab You Must Market Your Book on Amazon and start smashing that sales plan.

Have a wonderful week finishing what you start, and I'll see you next week!
