Day 8: Still iced in.

Mother Nature is running on her own timeline, and arguing with her seems unproductive. Instead of frustration, I'm choosing gratitude. (I've got this indefatigable positive attitude, remember? "That's awesome!")

Every morning, I make a gratitude list: I'm so happy and grateful:

  • I can work from home.
  • We have power and food.
  • For the unexpected gift of uninterrupted time to think, create, and plan.
  • That the roads will eventually clear and life will resume its normal pace—but also a tiny bit grateful it hasn't happened yet.

Perhaps right now the pause is the point.

Wherever you are today, I hope you're finding something to smile about. Even if it's just the fact that you don't have to shovel anything.

I'm staying positive (and going slightly stir-crazy). I'll see you Monday.

Reading Time: 17 seconds Happy Friday! I don't know about you, Reader, but I can practically taste the weekend—even if I'll be spending it in the same spot I've occupied for a week. The ice is still hanging on with impressive determination, but you know what? So am I!! I decided that no matter what happens, my response is gonna be: "That's awesome!" Mrs. Claus made a meatloaf, but the oven doesn't work? That's awesome! (Byron threw it on the grill--it was delish!) The insurance won't get the...

Reading Time: 23 still very chilly seconds You might think by Day 6 of being iced in, I'd be climbing the walls or reorganizing my spice cabinet for the fourth time. Or drinking that peach moonshine one of our neighbors gifted us a few months ago. But no (at least not yet, 😉)—I'm still locked in on my intended outcomes. Some of you know I used to say I had a t-shirt that said, "I'm sorry I'm late, I didn't want to come." Then my brother got me one for Christmas. I may or may not be wearing it...

Reading Time: 13 very chilly seconds The good news: we have power. The bad news: stepping outside still feels like auditioning for a role in Frozen. (Let it go, let it gooooooo.) Today, my mission is simple—stay focused. While the world outside looks like a snow globe someone has been shaking a little too enthusiastically, I've got a hot cup of coffee and a to-do list that frankly does not care (even a little bit) about the weather conditions. If you're also iced in, I see you! And, I hope...
